Viladecans wins two Agenda 2030 awards for best practices on sustainable development

Viladecans City Council has won two Agenda 2030 awards for the best practices in sustainable development, awarded annually by Barcelona City Council. Within the "Action" category, the prize for the best initiative promoted by a public administration went to AIRE, the City Council's organizational culture program based on value-based management that, through internal communication, is transmitted to the entire organization. In the "Implication" category, the prize for the best product for disseminating knowledge about the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs went to Busquem Changemakers, the project for disseminating the missions of Viladecans 2030 and the Urban Agenda among local teenagers.

Through the Agenda 2030 awards, created in 2022, Barcelona City Council annually awards business, associative, administrative and educational initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, in total, nine proposals were awarded, and three special mentions were made among the 42 nominations received. The awards ceremony took place last thursday in Ca l'Alier, as part of the III Days of Agenda 2030, the annual meeting held by the Barcelona City Council to discuss joint strategies to make a fairer and more sustainable city and present its annual report on the achievement of the SDGs.

An AIRE that transmits values

AIRE is a resoult of a digital transformation process that has been the lever to activate internal communication and new ways to work with the implementation of Microsoft 365 and the entire application package. This allows to manage projects in transversal teams, personal relationships, access information...

Through internal communication, the corporate culture is transmitted through the use and sharing of information of interest to the work of municipal workers. The new Intranet, which was presented in May 2022, focuses on the mission, vision and values of the local corporation. The mission is to guarantee the quality of life of citizens, the vision is to be an innovative and proactive administration, oriented towards citizens, and the values that identify it are ethics and transparency, sustainability, innovation and cohesion. AIRE's areas of action can be summed up in improving individual bonding and efficiency, as well as the working climate and health of the organization, in addition to transmitting strategy and motivating innovation, aligning missions and challenges.

We are looking for Changemakers

Since the beginning of the school year, eleven centres in the city - Goar School, Sant Gabriel, Teide and Sagrada Família schools, Sales, Miramar, Olímpia, Josep Mestres Busquets, Josefina Castellví and Torre-roja high schools and the municipal centre for economic promotion Can Calderon – hosted Busquem Changemakers, the project for the dissemination of the missions of the Viladecans Strategy 2030 and the Urban Agenda among local teenagers. The backbone of the action, however, is not found in classrooms, but on the Internet and social networks. The starting point is a series of video podcasts, which serve as both didactic material and informative content and give a voice to young people, represented by ten students from the participating centres.

According to the organization, the Agenda 2030 awards are of an honorary nature and each of the awarded candidates receives an award from the Agenda 2030 Barcelona Awards and is recognized as an ambassador for the Awards, so that they help to spread these good practices in the city and beyond.
