Around seventy high school students from the Miramar and Sant Gabriel institutes gathered at Can Xic to learn first-hand about their future opportunities in Europe, on the occasion of Europe Day, celebrated every year on May 9.
The event, organized by the International Relations department and the Youth Councillor Irene Reus, focused not only on raising awareness about the work of the various bodies and institutions that make up the European Union, but also on the personal growth experiences it offers.
Led by Verònica Peral, a specialist in European mobility, and Gemma García from the European Office of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Diputació de Barcelona), the students were introduced to a range of opportunities available to young people within the EU. These include study and internship programs (such as the well-known Erasmus and Erasmus+), job exchanges, and volunteer projects.
The event also offered a glimpse into Viladecans’ commitment to and engagement with Europe through international projects—an effort that has earned the municipality distinctions such as the Green Leaf Award and the honour of being named European Green Capital for 2025.
