Viladecans and its city AmVaixador(e)s, aligned with sustainability

In Viladecans, we have been committed to sustainability for years now, as can be seen in projects like Vilawatt. However, since the declaration of the climate emergency, efforts have ramped up to make Viladecans a more eco-friendly city. These efforts have a clear goal for the near future: to cut greenhouse gas emissions and achieve climate neutrality in the city by 2030. This is one of the strategic focal points of the Viladecans Strategy 2030 and the Local Urban Agenda, as well as one of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The Viladecans AmVaixador(e)s programme has much to contribute, on both an individual and a professional level, to making this commitment a reality for citizens and the planet. Their experience in innovation, sustainability, wellbeing, new production models and the circular economy are key for advancing towards the goal of a zero-carbon footprint.

As Viladecans AmVaixadora Ana Palencia explained in an interview with bepositiveplastic.com: “We all have to be generous with our planet, and we have an individual responsibility to do the right thing and lead a sustainable lifestyle.”

At Unilever Spain, a global company with headquarters in Viladecans where Ana is director of Communication and Sustainability, “We are highly aware that we are part of millions of households every day, so we can be a key player in society by helping change consumer habits and making them more sustainable. It’s no easy task, but we have to work towards it together: companies, small and large, governments, foundations and consumers themselves.”

We’ve also recently celebrated being awarded LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for the Gonsi-Sòcrates Bio-Building. Gonsi CEO and Viladecans AmVaixadora Imma Simó notes about this certification: “It isn’t just getting certified according to standards aligned with the main criteria currently in place regarding sustainability; it is also recognition and a step forward in several aspects including the circular economy and sustainability, a positive impact on the people, and raising awareness of a work method that imitates nature’s cycles.”
