New services on Viladecans beaches

The beaches of Viladecans will have new information and surveillance services this summer to ensure health safety conditions in the context of the pandemia caused by COVID-19. A team of reporting agents will monitor that infection prevention rules, such as capacity to ensure social distancing, are maintained. The bathing season will begin on June 15 and close on September 15. The beaches of La Murtra and La Pineda will offer theirs services of bar, toilets, lifeguards, parking, first aid, cleaning or access by public transport, with the novelty of free of the bus that goes to the sea from the town of Viladecans (line VB4) during the weekends. The other two beaches in Viladecans, Remolar and Cal Francès, will be closed for bathing, as they are still affected by the damage caused by storm Glòria at the end of winter and are a protected natural environment.

However, Viladecans has a 2.6-hectare bathing beach. To ensure preventive distancing, municipal technicians have calculated a maximum capacity of 4,240 people (six square meters per person of an available area of sand where to put the towel of 25,440 m2). These beaches do not have a promenade and only have a regulated car park for 400 cars and 140 motorcycles. To the people who arrive in motorized private transport must be added the cyclists and the users of the line VB4 of municipal bus, line that works every summer to cover the 4.5 kilometers that separate the town of its beach.

The capacity will be controlled, in any case, by the reporting agents, with the support of the surveillance services of the Local Police, who will patrol in quad vehicles, and the Civil Protection volunteers. The new agents will ensure compliance with health safety conditions, such as maintaining the distance of two meters between groups or people of bathers or that there are not crowds of people when accessing services (showers, toilets or " chiringuito "). It will be a team of twelve people, who will work in shifts to cover a daily schedule from 8 am to 9 pm, including weekends.

The services of the beach will work, conditioned to the new hygienic-sanitary norms. The surveillance service, with five lifeguards, will begin on June 15 and close on September 15, every day, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lifeguards will also often remind beach users of public safety measures.

The bar will also open and must follow the rules of hygiene on personnel, facilities, food handling and organization, as any restaurant. Showers and toilets will be active, increasing snow cleaning and maintenance. The safety distances in the queues must be maintained. Toilets will be cleaned a minimum of six times a day. It is recommended to put the mask inside.

City bus, free on weekends

In terms of mobility, one of the main measures is the City Council’s commitment to free Vilabús VB4, the bus to the beach, on weekends, when there is a greater influx on the coast. We will soon inform you of the date of launch of the bus service to the beach (VB4), which will be in service in July and August and the first fortnight of September, with an hourly and meaningful service between 10 and 20.30 hours. In addition, this summer the parking space for motorcycles on the beach of La Murtra has been expanded, enabling space on both sides of the access road to the regulated car park, with a capacity for 140 vehicles. .

The regulated car park will be operational from Friday 19 June until 15 September to facilitate the access to the beach for the citizens of Viladecans. It will remain a regulated parking area, assuming the payment of five euros for people from other towns and one euro for those from Viladecans (when credited with the resident card). To make it suitable for this beach season, a time with the most intensive use of the whole year, improvement work is also being completed to fix the damage caused by the rains and turning points are being reviewed and poles, indicators and ropes are being replaced. Bicycles can park for free.
